The community plays a vital role in protecting our fisheries resources. Please help by reporting:

Illegal fishing activities 
Report suspected illegal activities (e.g. taking too many fish or taking female crabs) to a fisheries patrol officer on 1800 017 116.

Noxious and introduced fish sightings
Report sightings of carp, tilapia or other noxious species in Queensland waterways to the DPI&F Business Information Centre on 13 25 23.

Shark net equipment and marine animals
Report sightings of marine animals trapped in shark net gear or drifting buoys to us on 1800 806 891.

Recaptured tagged fish
Report catches of tagged fish to the Suntag Program on 1800 077 001. Suntag uses tags to gather and analyse data on fish movement, growth rates and habitats.

Community education & protection

Fishcare Volunteer Program
QBFP co-ordinated, community-based project in which recreational fishers educate the angling community about the rules and ethics of fishing in Queensland.

Queensland's shark net and drumline program.

Fisheries scholarships
Fisheries scholarships are an excellent way to get research and on-the-job experience while studying. Some specific programs include monetary payment.

Enforcement

Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol
QBFP enforces fisheries and boating safety laws, as well as undertaking related education and surveillance. Patrol offices are located along the coast as well as inland.

View the register of authorities for information on commercial licences, permits, quota and some reports of interest. Licence holders can perform a number of online transactions, such as temporary transfer of quota.

Recreational freshwater fishing (stocked impoundment) permits
A licence to fish in saltwater is not required in Queensland; however, a permit is needed to fish in certain freshwater dams.
